Duchess Pénières (侯爵夫人Pénières Koushakufujin Pénières) is a London noblewoman whom Earl Moriarty was infatuated with.
Appearance[]
The duchess is a young woman with fair blonde hair, and pale blue eyes. She is considered to be quite beautiful, as many male nobles are seen competing for her affection.
Personality[]
Unlike many other nobles seen in the series, the duchess appears to be genuinely quite kind-hearted and sympathetic to those less fortunate than herself.
This is seen by the fact that she was the one who first suggested that some of the upper class should share their wealth and assist the lower class by adopting orphaned children. Whereas the other nobles who subsequently adopted orphans, including the Moriarty family, only did so in order to impress the duchess.
Biography[]
Her appearance in the manga is minor, as she is not even referred to by name but simply as Earl Moriarty's mistress, as mentioned by William James Moriarty in order to rile up his mother.
She receives slightly more screen-time in the anime, becoming the main reason behind the Moriarty's adoption of Louis and William. However, unlike in the manga where she is specifically labelled the Earl's mistress, in the anime it appears to be more that the Earl is infatuated with her and is competing with other noblemen for her attention.
