The Scarlet Eyes Act 1 (緋色の瞳 第一幕 Hiiro no Hitomi Dai Ichi Maku) is the second episode of the MORIARTY THE PATRIOT anime series.
Synopsis[]
In 1866, a brilliant young orphan and his ailing younger brother are taken in by a charitable aid organization, where they catch the attention of the son of an earl, who is discontent with Britain's class system.
Summary[]
On a train, William sees a man reading the horse racing sheet and offers his help to analyze and tell him who the winner would be. Few years back, 1866, young William sees some men wondering about the horse race and he gives the a name of a horse, he believes he will win. A woman then approaches William asking him if he can do something about her flowers withering before she sells them and William suggest adding a bit of vinegar. Another man also shows up and thanks William for his advice as the rats disappeared and gives him cookies as thanks. Albert shows up and offers give William a ride back. Albert guesses William was again asked for advice and that he had turned into consultant for everyone. He tells him he won't tell about the cookies and that he can eat them with Louis.
Returning to the house, the servant Simon tells William to take his coat and even though its Albert's old clothes, it's still too classy for William to wear. Simon is annoyed he has to serve someone who was living on the streets until recently. The real William then comes out wondering what is going on and Simon apologizes for the noise.
Albert recalls how he hate the world and at the ragged school, how he met William and Louis for the first time, and was impressed by his knowledge and intelligence even though he was an orphan. At a party, duchess Penieres comments how she will be taking a orphan and save them. As another nobility decides to do the same, Earl Moriarty feeling pressured of having to do charity, decides to do the same to not look bad in the eyes of the other nobility. Moriarty tells Albert to find an orphan who is well behaved and won't cause them troubles. Visiting the ragged school, Albert sees William advising few men about something complicated and mentioning 40 yards. As he comes, the men quickly leave and William explains that wit his knowledge and help, he helps people and they thank him with money or food and that way he doesn't need to become a thief. A week later, Albert hears a nobility safe got broken into and that the thieves made a 40 yard tunnel and immediately connects it to William. He goes to visit William and overhears him talking with the other children. William tells them that nobility are great, but some of them are bad and if they see a bad one, they need to fight and kill him. Returning home, Albert sees his brother William had stabbed with a fork a maid on the hand as punishment. Albert gets angry and while in his room, he can't stop thinking about William words and what his brother did.
The next day, he visits William at the ragged school and comments that he heard him. He tells him that if he turns the nobility against him means picking a quarrel with the whole country and if he can fight them. William confirms that is what he intends as the class system puts a curse on people. Because of it, people's hearts get tainted and twisted, giving rise to devils. But if the devils are cast out, people's heats will become clear again, which will make the country beautiful.
