Summary[]
The episode starts out in William and Louis' past. They notice some students aren't getting enough food at the orphanage, they confront the mistress and their guesses were correct, the mistress lended money to someone from the orphanage. It is revealed that a nobel, Lord Baxter asked for 300 pounds to build a new orphanage. The mistress gave him the money. William and Louis arrive at Baxter's manor, and go inside. Lord Baxter explains that the construction of the new orphanage is not ready yet, and Willam explains that's not what they were coming for. William asks for the money that was lent because it was past the due date of paying it back. Baxter explains he can't pay it back, and Willam offers to pay him 600 pounds he collected over time. Baxter agrees and takes the money.
After William and Louis exit the manor, Louis questions if that was the right idea. William explains that the bottom of the contract they signed entitled that if the borrower fails to pay back the desired amount of money, William is entitled to a pound of Lord Baxter's flesh.
Later, at the court hearing Willam asked for permission to inspect Lord Baxter and questions why he can't pay them back. Baxter explains that he doesn't have any money. William asks about his vast manor, luxury boat, and company. Baxter claims he can't use the money from many of those, so WIllam asks for a pound of his flesh. Right before he can cut Lord Baxter, baxter's lawyer says that flesh means skin only so not a single drop of blood can be cut. Willam realizes that is impossible.
Willam asks to continue examining Lord Baxter and brings in a waiter at a restaurant the Baxter usually eats at. Willam asks Lord Baxter to order what he always does. Lord Baxter orders half a pound of steak. Willam asks if he ever orders the steak without the weight of blood. THe waiter explains that no one had asked him to do that in years. Willam explains that the flesh of the steak includes the blood, therefore the pound of flesh from Lord Baxter includes his blood too. He is about to slice Lord Baxter in his throat, when Baxter pleads and says that Willam can have his whole manor in exchange for his life. William expects the deal and later donates the money to the orphanage.
In the present time, Charles Augustus Milverton pulls the court records from William's time at the orphanage. William left the record intact so he would know if anyone was looking into his past. It doesn't take long before he realizes that Milverton is now his enemy and they must act quickly to stop the head of the newspaper empire before he exposes them all.
