The Two Detectives Act 1 (二人の探偵 第一幕 Futari no Tantei Dai Ichi Maku) is the tenth episode of MORIARTY THE PATRIOT anime series.
Synopsis[]
Holmes is frustrated at the thought of there being a mastermind behind the Noahtic and Drebber cases whose identity eludes him. After an unsatisfying investigation into a third nobleman death, Holmes has a chance encounter on a train.
Summary[]
With solving the case of Drebber, Sherlock gets his name on the newspaper and many citizens hire him to solve their cases. He solves all of their cases, but becomes glum as he isn't satisfied with the banal mysteries, but want to solve mysteries like Noahtic and Drebber, and reveal who Jefferson's benefactor is. Sherlock can't stop thinking of that and starts to imagine if he had killed Jefferson.
He ends up shooting in his room, which gets John and Miss Hudson's attention. A few seconds later, Lestrade arrives and Sherlock explains that he wanted to get his attention as he knew during this time he is getting would be getting a shave in a nearby barber. He asks him if there are any recent cases of aristocrats dying. Lestrade recalls that the Viscount of Redshire passed away on a lakefront in York. He had wrote a note that he was going to a late night walk and collapsed on a lakefront, but he had a chronic illness and there was no evidence of it being a crime. Sherlock decides they should go and investigate if it was a murder or not.
Sherlock, John and Lestrade head to York and find the place Redshire died. Sherlock looks around but is unable to find anything and is annoyed that it wasn't a murder. Returning to the train station, Lestrade goes to buy a newspaper and Sherlock wants to smoke, but is out of matches. As he is angry and asks John, they end up arguing and Sherlock blames him for his situation as he stopped him from killing Jefferson. Realizing he could have actually killed Jefferson, John is disappointed in Sherlock and that if he wants to be a murderer to do it by himself and gives him his train ticket and leaves.
On the train, Sherlock sees that John had locked their room and decides to go and eat in the dining car. In the dinning wagon, he sees William and Louis James Moriarty and goes to them. William comments that he read about him solving the Drebber case and Sherlock reveals that he intended for Lestrade to take all credit, but someone may have leaked it to the reporters. Sherlock tells William that he came to York to investigate the death of an aristocrat as he was following a series of deaths, that of Enders and Drebber.
William comments that he has just two parameters and he is guessing there is a mastermind and Sherlock agrees, but explains Jefferson offered to tell him the name of his benefactor if he killed him. He refused, but later visited him in prison and Jefferson revealed to him the name, William James Moriarty. Louis figures that's a bluff as he could get his name from the Noahtic and they kept a close eye on Jefferson and he didn't talk to anyone. But if they deny it that way, Sherlock will know they are involved; Louis grips his knife in preparation to strike Sherlock in case he's serious.
William finds it an amusing assertion and it's impossible to prove that he did not do something, but its Sherlock's job to prove he did it. Sherlock starts to laugh and reveals he was joking, but it would have been great if he was the mastermind. William then changes his expression and asks Sherlock to catch him if he can and if he wanted him to say that. Seeing that, Sherlock gets excited and laughs again. Lestrade then shows up and Sherlock introduces William and his adoptive brother, Louis.
They hear a scream and following it, a woman explains that she heard a sound from a neighboring compartment and upon checking it, she saw a dead man inside. As it's clearly a murder, Sherlock offers to William that they compete to see who can solve the case first and William agrees. John then shows up with blood on his clothes.
