Summary[]
Albert describes the first time he met William, who had yet to take on that name. He found that the boy understood his world view and did research about him, deciding that he wanted to join forces with him. Albert offered the boy everything he has and has them adopted into his family.
Over the course of a year, Albert hesitates to get rid of his family while "William" and Louis suffer under the Moriartys' abuse. He eventually seeks out "William" once more, asking what to do. It turns out "William" had already made several preparations and would help Albert gain the courage.
Through this guidance, Albert is freed from his struggle, but he realizes that in return he dragged William into a life of killing and sin. He considers William's sacrifice his own fault, frustrated that he can do nothing now.
The chapter ends with William, who is still alive, entering Albert's prison cell.
