Play of the Lord of Crime Act 1 (Play of the Lord of Crime Act 1 犯罪卿の戯れ 第一幕, Play of the Lord of Crime Act 1 Hanzai Kyou no Tawamure Dai Ichi Maku) is the first chapter of the Moriarty the Patriot -The Remains- manga series.
Summary[]
Louis, Albert and a mysterious woman take a carriage to head to the old Moriarty manor in Durham. Once they've arrived to the now vandalized and demolished villa, it's revealed that William had disguised as Albert's fiancée to hide his identity. The three look around and Louis discovers an old journal with some of his favourite cases, starting a story of the past—
One night, Moran visits William's study room and asks for £100 to help a woman with a dowry. William sees through the made-up story, immediately concluding that Moran was caught cheating in a game of cards. Moran admits to it and wants to leave, but William stops him and wants to hear about what happened.
Earlier that night, Moran was playing cards in a pub. He was winning, but a man named Johnson caught him cheating. He gave back what he won that day, but the people wanted him to pay back the £100 he won overall. Moran explained they can't prove he cheated in all games, so they agreed on a final match the next day for the £100.
Back at the manor, William and Moran realize that Johnson must have also been cheating and William decides to make preparations.
The following night, Moran arrives with William, who introduces himself under the alias of "Willie" and wants to join in on the match. Johnson notices he's a noble, saying his advanced education is unfair and so he offers to play only one round of one-shot poker. William adds another £100 to the prize, happily accepting the rules.
