Birdy Edwards, also known as Goodnight Lowe, is a gunslinger from the United States. He works together with his friend Good Morning Shaw, the two going by the duo name "Big Texas Brothers".

Appearance[]

Goodnight Lowe is a tall man of average build. He has pointy facial features with a prominent nose and chin. He has brown, slicked-back hair and wears a typical cowboy hat with a small "BTB" (Big Texas Brothers) pin on it, hair strands visible in the middle and at the sides of his face.

He wears a dark vest over a white shirt together with a black rifle holster. He also wears fingerless gloves.

Personality[]

Goodnight Lowe is a confident, assertive but still friendly man. He is often cheerful and enthusiastic when he speaks or shows off his skills, proud of abilities. He seems to mock and underestimate others at first, but he acknowledges people's strength and seems impressed by what people like Sherlock and Billy are capable of.[1]

He has a sincere wish of becoming a legend and willingly risked his life for protecting Vermissa.[2]

Biography[]

Goodnight Lowe mentions that he's had neither roots nor a home ever since young.[2] At one point, he met Good Morning Shaw and the two became known as the gunslinger duo the "Big Texas Brothers".[3]

Goodnight Lowe and Good Morning Shaw are hired to guard the path to Vermissa Valley. When Sherlock and Billy run into them, Goodnight Lowe stops them from going further and puts them to the test. After witnessing Billy's incredible gun skills, he lets them proceed and even follows them together with Good Morning Shaw.[1]

He is impressed by Sherlock's courage and genius, immediately addressing him as "boss" and joining him in the mission to fight for Vermissa. When Billy asks who they even are, Goodnight Lowe and Good Morning Shaw introduce themselves.[3]

During the battle of Vermissa, Goodnight Lowe shoots at the scowrers together with the citizens and joins Sherlock once he notices them retreating. When one of the scowrers comes towards the gates, Goodnight Lowe wants to eliminate him, but Sherlock stops him.[4]

When the scowrers reveal their parrott rifles, Goodnight Lowe makes his way to the bell tower. He manages to shoot at the shells from a long distance, epxloding and destroying the rifles. Billy begs him to come down, but he refuses. The scowrers aim at the bell tower with their last rifle, firing at the same time as Goodnight Lowe. He manages to destroy the rifle, but is hit and killed by the cannon shot.[2]

His grave is located near the town of Vermissa, honoring him and others who gave their lives for Vermissa.[5]

Origin[]

Birdy Edwards is based on the character of the same name who appears in the original Sherlock Holmes novel "The Valley of Fear". Edwards was a Pinkerton agent who went undercover as "Jack McMurdo" in Vermissa to help break up the scowrers who were terrorizing the Vermissa Valley.
