Earl Albert James Moriarty (アルバート・ジェームズ・モリアーティ, Arubāto Jēmuzu Moriāti) is one of the main characters of MORIARTY THE PATRIOT. He is the eldest of the Moriarty brothers, part of the identity that makes up the Lord of Crime.

After serving in the army, he became the leader of the newly-founded MI6, though he laid down the position after choosing self-confinement in the Tower of London.

Appearance[]

Albert is tall man of 188 cm with pale skin and a thin build. He has green eyes and brown hair with split, pushed back bangs. His hair length extends a bit down his neck.

For clothing, he wore a dark green three-piece suit with a green tie and a white, folded pocket square.

Post-Timeskip[]

After spending three years in prison, he has lost weight and his hair has grown longer. After officially returning to his allies, he has also worn a ponytail. His suit is still a dark green colour.

Personality[]

Albert is a kind man who had started to hate his family and fellow nobles for treating commoners poorly and as being lower than them. Though the corruption of the nobility ran deep in the country, Albert was of a different world view and would visit the local orphanage weekly to assist even when he was a child.

He has a respectful and friendly attitude towards his peers, and is always happy to assist his allies. His charisma and handsome appearance is also known to draw others in. It is often mentioned how noblemen are sending him invites to parties and ladies throw themselves at him, even after he had given up his noble status.

Despite his warm-hearted nature, he has no empathy for corrupt nobles and will resort to violence if needed. As a result of this, he ended up killing his own family, who looked down on commoners and abused his adoptive brothers.

Even if they are not brothers by blood, Albert cares about William and Louis greatly. He throws his full support and resources behind William's plans to abolish the class system to save the impoverished; having been inspired by William's speech and ideals when they met.

After William's death, he came to greatly suffer over involving William in a life of crime. He fell into a cycle of blaming himself for what William went through and seeing his actions as the "original sin". When William returns however, he reassures Albert that the latter has always been a source of strength and comfort for him, the two reaffirming their bond as family.

He is determined to live on alongside his allies and atone for his past deeds.

Trivia[]

  • The character is based on the less known brother of Professor James Moriarty who was referenced twice in the Doyle canon. Since the manga uses the two brother theory due to Doyle retconning the brother's profession, he's likely based on the incarnation referenced in The Final Problem who's referred to as a colonel and Moriarty's older brother.
  • Albert came second in both the first and second character popularity polls.
  • His likes are wine and his family.[1]
  • He dislikes prideful people and dust.[1]
  • Albert's current worry is that, despite giving up his aristocratic title, he keeps being flooded by invitations from noble ladies.[1]
  • He is heavily implied to be religious, specifically Catholic, having made multiple references to the Bible and those concepts influencing his thinking.
